A Safe Approach to Opioids in Dental Practice Casey Grover, MD & Reb Close, MD Tuesday, October 22, 2024 Via Zoom

-This course satisfies the 2 CE unit requirement made effective by the Dental Board of California for license renewal effective January 1, 2023.
-Presented jointly by Kern County, Fresno-Madera, Tulare-Kings, Santa Barbara-Ventura and Yosemite Dental Societies.

Course Description:
Drs. Reb Close and Casey Grover will provide an evidence-based course on pain management and opioid prescribing in dental practice. Topics will include the responsibilities and requirements for opioid prescribing, best practices for pain management, identification and management of patients with opioid use disorder, and best practices for educating patients on safe pain management.

Course objectives:
– This is a Mandatory 2-unit course for dental license renewal
– As a dentist, learn about your responsibilities and requirements for opioid prescribing.
– Practices for pain management in dentistry
– The risks and identification of opioid disorder
– Learn about the very different patient presentations a dentist may encounter in their practice
– Review educational materials for patients that can increase patient awareness of the dangers of prescription meds and encourage treatment of substance use
– Best practice for dental pain management

About the Speakers:
Casey Grover, MD. Dr. Casey Grover is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine. He attended medical school at UCLA and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at Stanford University. He currently practices in the Emergency Department at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, has an outpatient Addiction Medicine clinic, and also provides addiction care in a street-based clinic for unhoused patients.

Reb Close, MD. Dr. Reb Close is board certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine. She at- tended medical school at UCLA and completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at UCLA. She currently practices in an outpatient Addiction Medicine clinic, provides addiction care in a street-based clinic for unhoused patients, and also has a clinic in the Monterey County jail for incarcerated patients with addiction.
